Yesterday two teams of engineering and construction students went to WMG Solihull to take part in a design and make challenge. The students had 4 hours to design, plan, make, test and perfect a vehicle that was only powered by gravity and travelling along 2 suspended wires a metre off the ground.
Despite all the other teams being made up of Post-16 students and several groups from specialist engineering schools, our year 10 group managed to get the 3rd farthest distance travelled with their vehicle. Our year 11 team worked really well together and won in the “Design for Manufacture” category. Meaning that the judges thought they had the best design with the best use of the materials available to them. A massive thank you to both our teams for all their efforts throughout the day, their professionalism in representing the school, and for our new 3d printer.
Also a massive thanks to Neal and Mr Amos for all their help throughout the day and to Mr Kobrin for helping to organise the event.
