In Year 7 and 8 students are exposed to a wide range of topic areas ranging from ‘Me and My Life at School’ at the start of their journey to ‘Me and My Holidays’ by the end of Year 8. By the end of Key Stage 3 students will be able to develop key skills in listening, speaking, reading, writing, translation dictation and vocabulary retention. There is a large focus on home learning through the use of Quizlet, allowing students to improve their vocabulary retention at their own pace. Students have an awareness of a variety of grammar rules including sentence structure and tense formation, which will support their literacy in other subjects. Ernesford Grange students will develop speaking skills in French or Spanish and will be able to confidently respond in the target language with fluency and spontaneity. Translation skills will be developed both to and from the target language. These combined skills allow our Ernesford students to acquire an appreciation and understanding of culture in which the target language is spoken and increase their global awareness as citizens.
