The PE department takes pride in delivering high quality lessons which provide the opportunity for students to participate in a range of sports and activities to gain a passion for lifelong participation in exercise and sport as well as the important skills such as team work, commitment, leadership and discipline.
Ernesford Grange is keen to welcome students of all ability to attend extra-curricular clubs to help develop and improve their individual skills and enjoy the health and social benefits of physical activity.
Students are expected to bring their PE kit to every lesson and participate in some form or other.
A student who is excused for illness/injury with a letter from parents can still take on an official’s role or coaching role therefore they are expected to change.
Pupils are taught in same sex, mixed ability groups.
Pupils will participate in a range of activities; volleyball, dodgeball, rugby, football, netball, basketball, trampolining, dance, fitness, gymnastics, outdoor education, badminton, tennis, rounders, cricket, athletics and softball.
Assessment is at the end of each unit of work.
Pupils record their levels and chart their progress in their PE Record of Achievement booklet.
Targets are set for future progress by the teacher.
Key stage 4 students follow a course in Cambridge National sports studies.
They complete four units, one of which is an external exam.
They can achieve pass, merit or distinction at Level 1 or level 2.
Level 2 pass is equivalent to 1 GCSE In Key stage 5 we offer a course with Cambridge Technical in sport and physical activity.
This is equivalent to 1 A level.
